BEYOND FATE Synopsis:

There are always two sides to every story . . .

His whole life, Jonah Whitecomb has strove to meet everyone’s expectations of him: the perfect student, dutiful son, loyal twin, accomplished surfer, and powerful Magical. But behind his carefully composed façade hides the truth of how his family has fallen apart, leaving Jonah more often than not feeling adrift. To complicate matters, he fell in love long ago with a girl in his dreams, one he’s never told anyone about, including his twin brother.

Just when life seems its bleakest, Jonah discovers that Chloe is real. Wanting to finally reach out and grab happiness for himself, he embarks on a journey to track down the girl of his dreams, only to find that happy endings aren’t always guaranteed, the best laid out plans can go horribly awry, and sometimes, you have to simply let yourself go along for the ride.

* Beyond Fate is Jonah’s point-of-view of the events of A Matter of Fate, and is a companion novella.

About Heather Lyons:

Heather Lyons has always had a thing for words—She’s been writing stories since she was a kid. In addition to writing, she’s also been an archaeologist and a teacher. Heather is a rabid music fan, as evidenced by her (mostly) music-centric blog, and she’s married to an even larger music snob. They’re happily raising three kids who are mini music fiends who love to read and be read to.

And now my interview with Jonah:

Simply Sarah's Corner: Hi Jonah!
Jonah: Hey Sarah.
SSC: I’m so excited that I get to interview you.
J: (scratches back of neck, looks a little uncomfortable) Thanks?
SSC: I wanted to start with a few hard questions…
 (looks a little more uncomfortable)
1.       Being an Emotional, what is the easiest or hardest part to deal with?
When I was little, it was dealing with constantly being barraged by everyone’s emotions. I’ve learned to tune most of it out, like white noise, so I can focus on specifics. Obviously, it’s hard having to deal with people’s pain, or—worse yet—be the cause of it. I have to constantly remind myself of the end game.
2.       When your mom died could you feel her emotions?
(is quiet for a long moment). Um, yeah. Outside of the excruciating pain she was in, I also felt her terror and sadness. She was afraid to leave us.
 3.       So, you’re Connected to your twin Kellan and your soul mate Chloe; is it hard with two Connections? Who do you feel more loyalty to?
It only makes sense, right? These two are the most important people in my life. I’d lay my life down for either of them. So . . . to constantly feel torn between them is tough. As for loyalty . . . I don’t know if I can answer that. The Connections between us are different, you know? The one with Kel, well . . . we actually started as a single entity. He’s my other half. I don’t function right without him. The one with Chloe . . . I mean, I love her. How does one pick between the two people they love most? I don’t think it can be done.
4.       You first met Chloe in your dreams, why do you think you stopped seeing her in your dreams?
Kiah, a Dreamer I know, actually explained this to me once. She said that doorways between dreams are unstable and function only for a certain span of time. Everyone with a Connection who has one loses it eventually. The same happened between Karl and Moira, too.
5.       What is your happiest memory of you and Chloe?
I don’t . . . (considers this). I don’t know if I can pick just one. Maybe the time she found her Connection ring? Things seemed so right for us that night.
6.       Even though you and Chloe are Connected, why do you think you are a better choice for Chloe than Kellan?

History. She and I, we have history. That’s hard to ignore.
7.       It seems you and Kellan can be a little bit competitive. Who is the better surfer: you or Kellen?

(laughs under his breath) Honestly? Me. And he’d tell you that, too. But he’s way better at being able to teach it to anyone.
8.       Where do you see yourself in a year from now?
Working for the Council and making differences in the worlds.

Ok now some fun questions to get to know you better.
1.       What’s one thing that no one knows about you?
I’m pretty good at tennis.
2.       What do you like to do in your free time other than surfing?
I really like to read. Plus, I’m a big sports fan, so I watch a lot of sports. Also, I’m a runner. I go running everyday.
3.       What’s the one food that you don’t ever want to live without?
Huh. Probably . . . salt and vinegar chips. Chloe hates them, so I never have to share, which is nice!
4.       What do you love most about Chloe?
Her heart. She cares deeply, and that’s beautiful to me.

Thank you so much Jonah for taking the time to answer my questions!
Thanks for having me, Sarah!
